personības testa otro redakciju (Minesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory – 2(MMPI-II),
Butcher, Dahlstrom, Graham, Tellegen, & Kaemmer, 1989).
Bachelor theses ‘MMPI-II Test Scale Result Comparison of Adoptive Parents and Parents
who have Disagreements about Child Custody’ goal was to determine whether there are
statistically significant differences in the MMPI-II personality test scales for men and women
in groups of individuals who are approached with an application to recognize them as
adoptive parents and couples who have disagreement about child custody, and the control
group. Is there a statistically significant gender differences in MMPI-II personality test scales
in groups of individuals who have turned to the application to recognize them as adoptive
parents and individuals who have disagreement about child custody.
In study participated 184 respondents. Randomly selected three groups of respondents. The
first group of participants 31 couple of men and women living together at least one year who
have turned to the Orphans' Court with an application to recognize them as adoptive parents.
The second group of participants 30 couple, men and women who have disagreement about
child custody. A third group of participants 31couple of men and women who live together at
least one year and have common biological children (control group). Study participants filled
the Minnesota multiple personality test, second edition (Minnesota multiphasic Personality
Inventory - 2 (MMPI-2) Butcher, Dahlstrom, Graham, Tellegen, & Kaemmer, 1989).
Summarizing the results it can be concluded that there are statistically significant differences
in the MMPI -II personality test scales among couples who have been approached with an
application to recognize them as adoptive parents and couples who have disagreement about
child custody and control group. There are statistically significant gender differences in
adoptive group in Psychasthenia (Pt), Masculinity-Femininity (Mf) and Schizophrenia (Sc)
scale. In disagreement group had a statistically significant gender differences in the
Depression (D), Masculinity-Femininity (Mf) and the Social Introversion (Si) scale. Parents
who have disagreement about child custody and adoptive parents are characterized as people
without significant emotional and behavioral difficulties. Disagreement parents are people
who want to hide some personality traits, position themselves psychologically healthier, show
itself at its best and it shows that this group have more marked psychological defense
mechanisms.
There is no research about adoptive and disagreement parents in Latvia, so this is scientifical
study which gives theoretical and practical overview about these groups which helps field
professionals understand specification of adoptive and disagreement parents.
Key words: Adoption, child custody, personality, MMPI-II, parents who have disagreements
about child custody.
