The aim of the study was to clarify whether there exist differences in attitude towards money and pay satisfaction for people of different level of salary and education, as well as whether there exist gender differences in those indicators. The research set four research questions regarding whether there exist differences towards money and pay satisfaction in the indicators for people with high and low income, people with higher and secondary education, as well as whether there exist gender differences in those indicators.
In the research the representatives of different posts of one organisation took part, in total 100 persons. Two sample were made – sample of higher salary (n=58, out of which n=31 men, n=27 women) and sample of lower income (n=42, out of which n=34 men and n=8 women). 54 sample participants are with higher education, 42 – with secondary education and 4 – with elementary education. In the study two questionnaires were used. In order to clarify the indicators of attitude towards money, “Questionnaire of attitude towards money” elaborated by social psychologists of the Munich University (Kahnt etal., 2004) was used (Fragebogen zum Einstellung zu Geld) which was adapted for the study. To measure pay satisfaction “Pay Satisfaction Questionnaire” (PSQ; Haneman & Schwab, 1985) was used which has been adapted in Latvia by U.Pāvuls (2002).
In order to clarify the answers to all study questions the average of sample were compared by using t-criteria. The research results showed that there exist substantial differences in the indicators of attitude towards money and pay satisfaction of the selections of higher and lower income. Substantial differences in the indicators of attitude towards money and pay satisfaction were noted also in the sample with higher and secondary education. Gender differences in attitude towards money were also stated, however no gender differences were determined in pay satisfaction.
Key words: attitude towards money, pay satisfaction, level of salary, level of education, gender difference.
