Maģistra darba tēma ir „Mājdzīvnieka loma bērna sociālo prasmju attīstības veicināšanā”. Cilvēka un dzīvnieka attiecības un to nozīme ir daudznozīmīgs jautājums, kura izpētē nonākt pie striktiem un drošticamiem rezultātiem ir ļoti grūti. Tomēr, tas ir arī būtisks jautājums, kura sīkāka izpēte varētu uzlabot cilvēka dzīves kvalitāti. Darbā tiek izvirzīts apgalvojums, ka mājdzīvnieka esamība ģimenē ir saistīta ar bērna socializācijas prasmēm un pašnovērtējumu. Darba pirmajā nodaļā tiek aplūkotas socializācijas procesa teorētiskās nostādnes, kas iekļauj arī sociālo statusu un lomu aplūkošanu, kā arī jautājumu par cilvēka identitāti un empātijas spēju. Otrajā nodaļā uzmanība tiek vērsta uz dzīvnieka lomu cilvēka dzīvē un mājdzīvnieka nozīmi bērna attīstībā. Trešo daļu veido empīriskā pētījuma izklāsts, kur uzsvars tiek likts uz korelācijām, ar kuru palīdzību iespējams pierādīt saistību starp mainīgajiem. Diskusijas daļā autore sniedz pārskatu par radniecīgiem pētījumiem un norāda uz līdzīgiem pētījumu rezultātiem.

The theme of master’s paper is “The role of a pet in the social skill development of a child”. Relationship between a human and a pet and its importance is a significant question, after investigation of which is difficult to come to strict and reliable conclusion. However, it is an essential question which closest investigation can improve quality of human life. The master’s paper puts forward the statement that owning a pet is connected with kids’ social skills and self-esteem. The first chapter deals with theory of socialization, which also includes social status and observation of roles, as well as questions of humans’ identification and skills of empathy. The second chapter pays attention to the role of a pet in humans’ life and significance of a pet in development of a child. The third part is experiential observation, where the stress is put to correlation with the help of which it is possible to prove the connection between variables. The author has studied similar researches and points out similar observation results.
