The lending portfolio of the bank system lately has the signs of rapid development. It is indisputable that lending comes as a support to the economy of the state, as an integral part of the economic development, however one should not unequivocally evaluate its influence, especially nowadays, when there are serious problems in the aspect of macroeconomics of Latvia. Excessive lending, high inflation, record-breaking high current account deficit and the risk of economic overheating - these are the most important topics in the sphere of politics and economics currently. That is why the aim of the bachelor paper is to define the role of lending in the development of economics of Latvia on the basis of theoretical researches and the analysis of statistical data, as well as to put forward the suggestions for the improvement of lending performance. The paper can be used for the deep study of dynamics and quality of the lending portfolio system, as well as for the assessment of lending influence on the stability of economics.
