This bachelor’s thesis is devoted to the conception of logical atomism described in Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. The aim of the thesis is to determine ontological assumptions that necessarily had to be posed by Wittgenstein for the conception of logical atomism to be possible. When looking at the conception of logical atomism, the main focus is on the relationship between language and the world, as well as its isomorphic structure, picture theory of meaning and characteristics that have to be assigned to objects for them to be fact-constituent.
It can be concluded by looking at the conception of logical atomism, as explained in Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, that object ontology is secondary to situation ontology. In addition, ontological assumptions, as a basis for reasoning behind the before mentioned dependency, are demonstrated. The most significant ontological assumptions are the necessary characteristics of objects in Wittgenstein’s Tractatus which are as follows: the simplicity of objects and impossibility for objects to exist outside the states of affairs.
Key words: ontology, logical atomism, Wittgenstein.
