Viktorijas laika sievietes postmodernisma perspektīvā Sāras Votersas romānos „Radniecība” un „Zagle”

Abstract

Tradicionālās dzimumu lomas ir tikušas lietotas jau gadsimtiem ilgi, un to pirmsākumi meklējami jau akmens laikmetā, iespējams, pat pirms tā. Šī bakalaura darba mērķis ir izzināt terminu „sex” un „gender” nošķirtību angļu valodā, ierasto dzimumu lomu dabu un to, kā Sāra Votersa atveido sievietes un vīriešus to tradicionālajās dzimumu lomās romānos Affinity un Fingersmith. Rezultāti tika iegūti apkopojot datus no Batleres Gender Trouble, Fuko History of Sexuality, Farvelas Heterosexual Plots & Lesbian Narratives, Viciniusas Suffer and Be Still, kā arī vairākām citām grāmatām un vairākiem interneta rakstiem par Viktorijas laika dzimumu stereotipiem. Analizējot rezultātus, bija iespējams secināt, ka Sāra Votersa netieši norāda uz to, ka dzimuma un identitātes problēmas, kas eksistēja Viktorijas laikā, joprojām nav tikušas atrisinātas. Turklāt rakstniece arī izmanto mūsu aizspriedumus pret mums, lai uzturētu spriedzi abu romānu garumā.

Traditional gender roles have been in use for centuries and date back to the Stone Age, perhaps even before that. The purpose of this bachelor paper is to investigate the distinctions between the notions “sex” and “gender” in English, the nature of traditional gender roles and how Sarah Waters depicts men and women in their gender roles in her novels Affinity and Fingersmith. The results were obtained by gathering data from Butler’s Gender Trouble, Foucault’s History of Sexuality, Farwell’s Heterosexual Plots & Lesbian Narratives, Vicinius’s Suffer and Be Still, as well as several other books and several online articles concerning Victorian gender stereotypes. By analysing the findings it could be concluded that Sarah Waters suggests that the gender and identity issues that were topical during the Victorian era have not been resolved yet. In addition, Waters uses our being prejudiced to maintain the suspense throughout both novels.
