The present bachelor paper is dedicated to the analysis of the lyrics translations from English into the Russian, Latvian and Spanish languages taken from the famous musicals. The research investigates the Russian, Latvian and Spanish translations of the songs “Money, Money, Money” made by different translators for both the musical film and the musical theatre “Mamma Mia”, as well as the Latvian and Russian translations of the songs “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Masquerade” made for the musical film “The Phantom of the Opera”. The main goal of the given study was to carry out an analysis of the translations, as well as to identify their functions, types, methods and strategies. The data for the research were collected from the books on translation, Internet articles, questionnaires, as well as from the author’s own observations and knowledge on the theme. The result of the study showed that the translations of lyrics are mainly governed by their function. To the potential readership belong people interested in the topic of translation studies as such.
