Sievietes pašnāvība un tās literārais atspoguļojums Keitas Šopēnas romānā Atmošanās un Ļeva Tolstoja romānā Anna Karenina

Abstract

Darbs ir veltīts sieviešu pašnāvību atspoguļošanai Ļeva Tolstoja novelē Anna Karenina un Keitas Šopēnas novelē Atmošanās. Darba mērķis ir atrast un salidzināt sieviešu pašnāvību motīvus Ļeva Tolstoja un Keitas Šopēnas novelēs. Pētījumā tiek izmantotas vairākas metodes: tas sākas ar literatūras aprakstu, suicidoloģijas pamatiem, ieskatu vēsturē un autoru biogrāfijās, kas sniedz pētījuma teorētisko pamatu, un turpinās ar pētījuma praktisko daļu, kas sastāv no noveļu saturu analīzes. Pētījuma rezultāti secina par faktu, ka divas pētījumam izvēlētās noveles rūpīgi reprezentē 19. gadsimta sievietes lomu sabiedribā. Viens no svarīgākiem secinājumiem ir sekojošs: apgalvojums, ka viens no 19. gadsimta sieviešu pašnāvību celoņiem bija sabiedrības atstumptība, laika ideālas sievietības pamatkvalitāšu gāšana, un galveno varoņu ‘sievietes mātes’ dabas nepilnība.

The present paper is aimed at analyzing women’s suicide interpretation in Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina and Kate Chopin’s The Awakening. The purpose of the paper is thus to find and compare women’s suicide motives in fiction by Leo Tolstoy and Kate Chopin. There is a number of methodological entries used in the research: it starts with a literature review, basic suicidology, historical research, and biographical study which provides theoretical basis to the research and is followed by the narrative analysis of the novels.

The results of the research speak in favour of the fact that the two novels chosen for the purposes of the research represent of the role of a woman in the society at the turn of the 19th century. Among the main conclusions made on the basis of the findings is the statement that one of the main reasons for women suicide in the 19th century was the impossibility to be accepted by the society of the time resulting from the loss of the key virtues of ideal womanhood, proving their incomplete ‘mother-woman’ identity.
