Latviešu-angļu tulkojumu rediģēšana Latvijas Universitātes tīmekļa vietnei

Abstract

Šajā darbā analizēta pieeja latviešu–angļu tulkojumu rediģēšanai Latvijas Universitātes (LU) tīmekļa vietnei. Darba mērķis ir apkopot būtiskākās rediģētajos tulkojumos sastaptās neprecizitātes un izveidot ieteikumus tulkotājiem, kas tulko no latviešu valodas angļu valodā. Analizētos tulkojumus šī darba autors rediģējis divus semestrus paralēli studijām LU. Darba teorētiskajā daļā ir apskatītas būtiskākās tulkošanas metodes, tekstu tipi, ekvivalence tulkošanā, ziņu rakstu uzbūve un redaktora uzdevums tulkošanā. Darba praktiskajā daļā analizēti rediģēti latviešu–angļu tulkojumi, ko veikuši tulkotāji, kuriem angļu valoda nav dzimtā valoda. Maģistra darba pēdējā nodaļa satur angļu valodas stila rokasgrāmatu latviešu–angļu tulkotājiem. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka biežāk sastaptās neprecizitātes rediģētajos tulkojumos ir saistītas ar sintaksi, lietvārdu un of frāžu lietojumu, stilu, cilvēku vārdu un profesiju atspoguļošanu tulkojumos, kā arī interpunkciju un darbības vārdu lietojumu. Pētījuma rezultāti var būt noderīgi, lai veiktu sīkāku latviešu–angļu tulkojumu analīzi. Darba pēdējā nodaļā sniegtie ieteikumi ir noderīgi angļu valodas studentiem, pasniedzējiem un tulkotājiem, kuri tulko no latviešu valodas angļu valodā. The present paper analyses the editing of Latvian–English translations for the website of the University of Latvia. The paper aims to review the most significant inaccuracies, observed in the edited translations, and develop recommendations for translators working from Latvian into English. The author of the present study analysed the edited translations for two semesters while studying at the UL. The theoretical part of the paper discusses the most important translation methods, text types, equivalence in translation, the make-up of news articles and editor’s role in translation. The practical part of the paper analyses edited Latvian–English translations done by non-native speakers of English. The final chapter of the Master Paper contains an English style guide for Latvian–English translators. The results of the study suggest that the most often encountered inaccuracies in the edited translations are related to syntax, the use of nouns and of-phrases, style, rendering people’s names and job titles, as well as punctuation and the use of verbs. The results of the study can be used to conduct a more in-depth study of Latvian–English translations. The recommendations, outlined in the final chapter of the paper, are useful to students and teachers of English and translators who translate from Latvian into English.
