The early Irish sagas, which are considered to be the third oldest literature in Europe, narrate about the greatest Irish hero CúChulainn. The aim of this research was to explore the diachronic representation of the image of CúChulainn in the early Irish sagas of the Ulster Cycle and in modern popular culture. The applied research methods were both theoretical and empirical. The theoretical methods implied the study of the relevant literature on mythology and the hero of the myth. The empirical methods included the analysis of the image of CúChulainn in the saga The Táin and two other sagas as well as in modern popular music, animation and comics. Moreover, two interviews were carried out. The results show that the image of CúChulainn is still employed in popular culture and therefore is not time and genre bound; however, it is depicted in a less violent or naturalistic manner than described in the sagas.
