Komiskais Č.Dikensa darbos "Olivers Tvists" un "Ziemassvētku dziesma"

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the comic either in both works “Oliver Twist” and “A Christmas Carol” or in the whole literary career of Charles Dickens. The comic is the most crucial point of the paper. It is reflected in the work as Dickens’s help to point out the vices of the epoch and the negative features of human characters. The meaning of the comic and its types are given in the paper. The work demonstrates the differences and similarities between two mentioned masterpieces to show what the author wanted to reflect or ridicule in them, what problems are the most painful for the writer and he wishes to share with the readers with his troubles about the fate of his nation, about the future of it. Moreover, the paper points out the problems of the Victorian society, the differences among the people within it; in the long run, the gallery of negative characters (mostly of “Oliver Twist”) tells what Dickens ridicules in human characters. Sometimes it is humourously, but sometimes with evil irony. The problems, which have been discovered in the paper, are the following: the relationship among the levels of the society, the real face of the Christians, who follow the Bible only in the church, but contempt the poverty out of it, the children’s labour and the great number of jails. The gallery of the negative images is a fantastic instance of the lowest and worst feelings and human characters: Charles Dickens creates these images with a purpose to open the eyes of the nation: people should understand their mistakes and be more tolerant to each other. In the long run, the social basis of the great writer and novelist is pointed in the work, because all his life this talented man has been fighting with social inequality, which is bringing forward in the both masterpieces of Charles Dickens.
