In the present paper the author has stated the main reasons for using games for developing listening and speaking skills in teaching 7-11 years old children. Taking into account the enabling objectives, the author has tried to prove that language games selected and designed to meet learners’ needs and interests raise young learners’ motivation and develop their speaking and listening skills. To prove the usefulness of games, the author has used the following methods of research: the analysis of theoretical sources, the Case Study involving lesson observation, piloting lessons with listening and speaking games and analysing the results. The empirical part was carried out at Jelgava Elementary School No 4 with the 3rd form students. The achieved results of the research have shown the effectiveness of games for improving listening skills and fluency of speaking skills. The conclusions drawn are based on the theory and analysis of the Case Study results. Due to the analysis the following conclusion may be drawn: as games give an opportunity to learners to use acquired knowledge immediately and provide the natural environment for practicing new language structures children’s developing of speaking and listening skills are promoted and level of their learning motivation is raised.
