Abstract
Diplomdarba temats ir „Sociālā darbinieka funkcijas darbā ar veciem cilvēkiem”. Diplomdarbā tiek analizēts novecošanās process, sociālā darbinieka nozīme strādājot ar veciem cilvēkiem, un kāpēc veciem cilvēkiem ir nepieciešama sociālā darbinieka palīdzība. Darba mērķis ir teorētiski pamatot sociālā darbinieka funkcijas darbā ar veciem cilvēkiem un empīriski pētīt un analizēt sociālā darbinieka funkcijas un nozīmi darbā ar veciem cilvēkiem Vecpiebalgas pagastā.
Darba teorētiskā daļa sastāv no 3 galvenajām nodaļām. Pirmajā nodaļā tiek analizēta gerontoloģija, kā atsevišķs cilvēka dzīves posms, otrajā nodaļā tiek analizēts novecošanās process, ko ietekmē tādi faktori, kā sociālais, psiholoģiskais, fizioloģiskais. Trešajā nodaļā tiek aprakstīti nepieciešamie sociālie pakalpojumi veciem cilvēkiem.
Empīriskajā daļā tiek izmantotas padziļinātās intervijas un anketēšana. Intervēti tiek speciālisti, kuru darbs ir saistīts ar veciem cilvēkiem. Anketu aizpildīšanā piedalās Vecpiebalgas pagasta sociālās darbinieces klienti, vecumā no 65 gadiem.
Intervēšanas un anketēšanas laikā tiek sasniegts Diplomdarba izvirzītais mērķis.

The theme of diploma thesis is “The functions of the social worker in the work with older people”. In this diploma thesis there is analyzed aging process, the significance of social worker in the work with old people and there was also analyzed question why old people need a relief from social workers. The aim of this diploma thesis is to base functions of social worker in the work with old people theoretically and to investigate and analyze functions of social worker in the work with old people empirically in the parish Vecpiebalga. The theoretical part of diploma thesis consists of three main chapters. In the first chapter there is analyzed gerontology as a separate period of human life. In the second chapter there is analyzed process of aging which is affected by such factors – social, psychological and physiologic. In the third chapter there are described necessary social services for old people. Interviews and questionnaires are used in empirical part of diploma thesis. Interviews were taken from specialists, who are closely related with work with old people. Questionnaires were given to clients up to sixty-five years of social worker in parish Vecpiebalga. By using interviews and questionnaires, the aim of this diploma thesis is reached. Key words: social worker, old people, functions of social worker.
