The theme of the work is “Latvian souvenirs as formers of identity and brand”.
The aim of the work is to determine the attitude Latvia`s residents have for Latvian souvenirs and their concordance to the identity of Latvia and also to learn what makes the identity of Latvia according to its residents, what are its characteristics, so to understand what could help to build the brand of Latvia and make it competitive with the brands of other countries.
Most respondents admit that the task of Latvian souvenirs is not only to serve as a memory of the trip but also to represent the identity of the country the souvenirs were brought from. Recognized as the souvenirs best representing Latvia were the traditional ones – Riga Black Balsam and sweets of “Laima” chocolate factory.
The theoretical part of work is dedicated to the theory of the identity, separating the national identity and the cultural identity. There is also a section included about the brand, its making and more specifically about a brand of a country. The theory of souvenirs is analyzed in the section three of the theoretical part of work. The empirical part of the work is dedicated to the analysis of five interviews and summary of results of the survey.
