The notions of home are very important in creating the individual's sense of belonging, dictating the position of the individual in space and time, as well as the relations with the environment, since this notion is composed of a specific place of residence, emotional communities, national and ethnic affiliation, cultural traditions and ideology. Media is one of the factors that influences the shaping and redefining of the notions of home. Most significantly, their role is seen when the meaning of national belonging changes. As per the results of the research, media with their negative communication, creating the gloomy discourse of economical future of Latvia, fosters negative attitude towards Latvia. Losing the importance of Latvia in their notion of home, people decide to emigrate much easier. This is why the government should work on strategies fostering sense of nationality to diminish the effect of media on the audience and evade the breakdown of national community.
