This Bachelor Thesis deals with the aspects of memory and memories and their influence on the fictionalization, self-reflection and auto-communication in the adolescent diaries of Arthur Schnitzler, that were written between 1879 and 1981.
The main goal of this work is to prove that all of the abovementioned aspects are in fact linked together and make the integral part of the journal analysis. The accent is set not only on the particularities of these aspects, but also on their functionality.
The Thesis breaks the clichés that surround the diaries saying that it is not more than a tool that helps the writer to remember certain events; on the example of Schnitzler’s journal it is proven that the function of self-reflection can be as strong as the mnemonic one.
