Idiomas Stīvena Kinga stāstos un to tulkojumos latviešu valodā

Abstract

Idiomas ir nemainīgas frāzes, kuru nozīmi nevar saprast burtiski. To pārnestās nozīmes dēļ, idiomas bieži vien rada grūtības tulkotājiem. Šī darba mērķis bija analizēt idiomu tulkojumus divos Stīvena Kinga stāstos – „Slepenais logs, slepenais dārzs” un „Bibliotēkas policists”, un noskaidrot, kādas tulkošanas stratēģijas var pielietot un būs visefektīvākās, tulkojot idiomas. Kopumā tika analizētas 199 idiomas un visbiežāk pielietotā tulkošanas stratēģija bija tulkošana parafrāzējot – 59% no visām idiomām tika parafrāzētas. Ne vienmēr izvēlētā tulkošanas stratēģija bija veiksmīgi pielietota, kā rezultātā mērķa valodas teksts bija nedabisks un grūti saprotams – tikai 56% no idiomu tulkojumiem tika novērtēti, kā pareizi – tādi, kas saglabā avotteksta idiomas nozīmi.

Idioms are fixed phrases, which cannot be understood literally. Because of their figurative nature, idioms often pose a challenge to translators. The aim of this paper was to analyse the translation of idioms in two stories by Stephen King – Secret Window, Secret Garden and Library Policeman – and to ascertain what translation strategies can be applied and would be the most effective when translating idioms. A total of 199 idioms were analysed and the most frequently applied translation strategy proved to be translation by paraphrase – 59% of all idioms were paraphrased. Not always the chosen translation strategy was successfully applied, resulting in unnatural and incomprehensible target language text – only 56% of idiom translations were evaluated as correct, i.e. preserving the meaning of the source text idiom.
