Theme of the bachelor’s work is „Care and prevention of pressure ulcers for patients with spinal cord cross-section”. During their work experience nurses meet patients with spinal cross-section who have pressure ulcers developed mostly because of lack of knowledge or due to negligence of medical workers. To prevent development of pressure ulcers the most important are preventive measures – appropriate eating regime, regular change of posture in the bed and in wheelchair, abandonment of destructive habits, correct model of sleeping and rest, positive state of mind. Interviewing of patients was used as an instrument of research. After conversations with patients it was understood that medical workers very elusively talk about pressure ulcers, they don’t warn patients, and don’t give necessary instructions. Patients, who are in the wheelchair already for many years, are well educated regarding prevention of pressure ulcers. They have obtained information from other patients with similar diagnosis or empirically – from personal experience.
Keywords: spinal patient, pressure ulcer, prevention, care at home, interview.
