The theme of the bachelor’s work is “Hydrological Impact of Lake on the River Runoff: the Case of the Salaca River Basin”. The purpose of the Bachelor‘s work is to analyse the hydrological impact of Burtnieks lake on the Salaca river. The work summarizes literature on the hydrological regime of rivers in Latvia, on the impact on the river, and provides a physico-geographical characterization of the Salaca basin. Analysis of hydrological data series has been done for the period of 1951-2007, covering six hydrologic stations: Salaca –Mazsalaca, Salaca-Lagaste, Ruja-Vilnisi, Briede-Dravnieki, Seda-Oleri and Burtnieks-Burtnieks. The present results support the theory that the hydrological impact of big lakes on the river runoff, the hydrograph of the Salaca river flowing from Lake Burtnieks is different from the hydrograph of rivers whose disgorge to the lake – spring flood last longer, hydrograph peaks are evening out and is not so high. Climate change has influenced distribution of total annual runoff, the runoff decreases in spring flood and increases in winter.
Keywords: hydrological regime, runoff, impact of lake, climate change, the Salaca basin
