Kolonizēto attēlojums Lourensa Norfolka romānos "Pāvesta degunradzis" un "Lempriera vārdnīca"

Abstract

Maģistra darbs „Kolonizēto attēlojums Lourensa Norfolka romānos „Pāvesta degunradzis” un „Lempriera vārdnīca” sastāv no ievada, trīs nodaļām un nobeiguma. Viens no šī darba mērķiem ir izpētīt kolonizēto un kolonizatoru attēlojumu romānos, kā arī kolonizācijas procesus kopumā. Cits mērķis ir izskatīt kolonizācijas procesus no vēsturiskās perspektīvas. Turklāt, šis maģistra darbs analizē apspiesto personību pieredzi, īpaši pieveršot uzmanību cilvēkiem, kuri kļuva par kolonizācijas un politiskajiem upuriem, to ciešanām un zudumiem. Es izpētīju dažādus vēsturiskos avotus par Āfrikas un Indijas kolonizāciju, pētīju renesanses un apgaismības laikmeta aprakstus vēsturiskos darbos. Šājā maģistra darbā es salīdzinu šo laikmetu attēlojumus vēsturiskajās grāmatās ar attēlojumiem Norfolka romānos.

The Master’s paper “The Representation of the Colonized in Lawrence Norfolk’s Novels The Pope’s Rhinoceros and Lempriere’s Dictionary” consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. One of the aims of the current work is to analyze the representation of the colonized and the colonizers, as well as the process of colonization in general. Another goal is to examine the processes of colonization from the perspective of historical accounts. Moreover, this paper investigates the experiences of the suppressed individuals, drawing attention to the sufferings and losses of the people who became the victims of the political intrigues and affairs. I have studied different historical sources about the colonization in Africa and India. Furthermore, I have researched the representation of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment in historical works. In my paper and I compare the representation of these two periods in works of history and in Norfolk’s novels.
