One of the most important problems in the material science nowadays is the production of relatively cheap nanocrystals and the study of the optical characteristics of nanomaterials. The goal of this bachelor thesis is investigation of YAG:Ce3+ nanomaterials in nanopowders and nanoceramics as well as a macroscopic single crystal by means of time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy. During the implementation of the study the luminescence spectra and decay kinetics were recorded in a number of experiments. The study results in obtaining new and hitherto undescribed properties of the luminescence of YAG:Ce3+ nanomaterials. A possible explanation of these properties is offered, based on the suggestion that a large fraction of nanocrystal atoms is on the particle surface.
