The goal of the paper is to investigate the available theoretical background on the translation methods, slang and publicistic style as one of the functional styles of language, where slang is used more frequently. The research is based on the author's collected slang examples during the academic translation practice from magazine "Cosmopolitan".
This paper presents the definitions of slang, as well as the insight into the main characteristics of slang and its use in publicistic style.
For the development of the present Master's paper, the descriptive and analytical methods were used. Having applied these methods to the practical analysis of the present study, the author concluded that during the translation of examples from source language (English) to the target language (Latvian), examples lose their meaning, as well as the level of informality and it is not possible to translate these examples in Latvian by saving their original thought.
