In recent years virtual currencies, including Bitcoin, have raised increased interest among both finance investors and entrepreneurs as well as representatives of state legislation and financial security.
Master thesis “Specific Characteristics of Virtual Currency Trade” is an interdisciplinary research in the field of international economy that identifies the specific characteristics of virtual currency trade while outlining differences between trade in the real currency markets and the predicted development tendencies in virtual currency markets.
In order to achieve this aim, the author has studied real and virtual currency markets, their development as well as currency trade guidelines with specific focus on the virtual currency – Bitcoin. The thesis analyses legal regulatory framework of virtual currencies in the world, in European Union and separately – in the Baltic States. Topics such as competition and speculative motives in markets of real and virtual currencies have been examined. It has been clarified whether people have interest in using virtual currencies and if and how they have used it.
The main conclusion of the thesis suggests that there are considerable differences between guidelines of virtual currency markets and real currency markets.
