The master's thesis consists of an introduction, theoretical and empirical sections, the results and discussion, conclusions and list of references. In the first theoretical part the author describes concepts of electoral geography and electoral behaviour in the context of social cleavages theory. Next, the author gives a description of electoral behaviour and factors and looks at three most approaches to explaining electoral behaviour: sociological, social-psychological and rational choice. The author also tried to structure the party systems in Latvia and Estonia and provided a description of the Russian-speaking electorate of these countries.
In the empirical part the author studied the electoral behavior of Russian-speaking residents of Latvia and Estonia and factors that influence it, in the last parliamentary elections based on electoral statistics and data of opinion polls, which he received from the Marketing and public opinion research centre SKDS and Estonian research company Turu-uuringute. In the results and discussion author described the main results obtained, and then he concluded, what are the main factors which influence the electoral behavior of this group.
