Abstract
The changes of the content of "micellar lotion" prepared in pharmacy Saules aptieka were studied by fluorescence, absorption and measurement of a stable free radical DPPH concentration methods. Obtained results showed that the lotion does not have antioxidant activity whereas vitamin C and B6 content decreases gradually with the time. Reduction of vitamin C level was recorded after 7 days, of vitamin B6 after 4 months. The vitamins concentration continued to decline and after 6 months the vitamin C concentration was only 50% but vitamin B6 content was about a third of the added in the lotion. Conclusion is that 6- month usage period of the lotion is inadequate, as well as that autofluorescence assay for the detection of E and B1 vitamin content is not suitable in the given formulation. The lotion color was changed indicating chemically modified substances. However, interviews of the users and cosmetologist confirm observed beneficial effects of the lotion on the skin.
