The aim of this work was to detect GABAA agonist muscimol low dose effects on rat memory in icv STZ AD-type model. To determine rat learning and memory, Morris water maze test has been implemented. Results showed that icv administration of STZ impaired spatial memory in rats in training tests and memory in probe trial. Administration of muscimol at both doses (0.01 mg/kg and 0.05 mg/kg) protected against the STZ-induced effects in main training tests and probe trial, improving rat spatial memory, learning and locomotor activity. Obtained data suggest the great potential and necessity of muscimol research in anti-AD therapies and the need for a study of muscimol effects after chronic administration in the current model.
