Lunasin is a newly discovered 43 amino acid long peptide that was originally extracted from soy beans. Afterwards lunasin was found in cereals and other crops. Lunasin possesses anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory activity and the ability to reduce low-density lipoprotein levels. However, effects of lunasin on the central nervous system have so far been very little studied. The aim was to study effect of lunasin and its fragments on monoamine content in mouse brain measured by high-performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry method. The obtained results show that lunasin and tripeptide RGD lower serotonin and noradrenaline levels, while C-terminal fragment 23-43 additionally also reduces serotonin and dopamine metabolite levels.
