The present Diploma paper deals with text authenticity of the reading test of year 12 English examination in Latvia. The aim of the present research is to examine the reading test texts and to gather evidence for situational and interactional authenticity. The topicality of the issue is determined by the fact that authenticity is one of the critical qualities of communicative language tests and thus, it adds to the validity and reliability of test scores. The paper discusses the theoretical rationale for the importance of authenticity in reading assessment. Since text authenticity is tightly connected with learner authenticity and task authenticity, all these types were taken into consideration when gathering evidence for situational and interactional authenticity. The authenticity evidence was gathered by means of qualitative and quantitative analyses. The study has shown that the tasks do not hold a very high degree of situational and interactional authenticity. Moreover, it was concluded that the selected tasks hinder the degree of text authenticity.
