Angļu valodas centralizētais eksāmens 12. klasei sastāv no atsevišķām sadaļām katras valodas prasmes pārbaudei, bet rakstīšanas daļa sevī ietver vairāku prasmju pārbaudi. English language examination for twelfth form students contains separate sections meant for testing each skill; however the writing part joins the performance of many of them in one task. Writing and grammar are inseparable. Therefore the aim of the present research paper is to register and classify grammatical mistakes committed by year 12 students in the English language examination essays in year 2014 and 2015. Discourse analysis was used as the main research method. In this research one hundred essays were analysed and the most common grammar errors and their causes were determined. The findings of this research show that the most common errors are related to the incorrect use of articles, the noun-verb agreement and incorrect sentence structure.
