Utopiju un antiutopiju iezīmes Luisas Lorijas Romānā “Devējs”

Abstract

Pašreizējais darbs ir veltīts Luisas Lorijas romāna Devējs analīzei. Pētījuma mērķis ir uzzināt kāda ir literāro utopiju un antiutopiju izcelsme un to attīstība, kādas raksturīgās iezīmes ir atrodamas ievērojamu utopiju un antiutopiju autoru darbos, un, lai atklātu kuras iezīmes Lorijas darbam ir kopīgas ar Tomasa Mora, Tommazo Kampanellas un citu utopiju un antiutopiju autoru darbiem. Pētījumā tiek izmantotas satura analīzes, uzmanīga lasījuma, un interpretācijas metodes. Galvenie rezultāti parāda, ka ideja par utopisku vietu pastāv jau vairākus gadsimtus, un, ka antiutopiskā literatūra parādījās kā atbilde uz cilvēces neveiksmīgajiem mēģinājumiem radīt reālas utopiskas kopienas. Tika izdalītas četrdesmit divas raksturīgās iezīmes dažādu utopiju un antiutopiju autoru darbos, divdesmit četras no tām Lorijas darbā. Visbeidzot, tiek secināts, ka Mora, Kampanellas, Platona un citu antiutopiju darbu autori ir ietekmējuši Luisas Lorijas romānu Devējs.

The present research paper is devoted to the analysis of Lois Lowry’s novel The Giver. The purpose of the research is to find out what is the origin and development of literary utopias and dystopias, what typical features are present in the works of prominent utopian and dystopian authors, and to detect which features Lowry’s work has in common with the works of Sir Thomas More and Tommaso Campanella, and other utopian and dystopian authors. The methods applied to the present research are content analysis, close reading and interpretation. The main results show that the idea of a utopian place has been present for many centuries, and that dystopian literature emerged as a response to the humanity’s ongoing failure of to create actual utopian communities. Forty-two typical features could be distinguished in the works of various utopian and dystopian authors, and twenty-four in Lowry’s work. Finally, it is concluded that Lois Lowry’s novel The Giver has been influenced by More, Campanella and Plato, as well as other dystopian authors.
