Abstract
The aim of the master thesis „Political theatre in Latvian media society: communicative characteristics and functions (2011-2016)” is to find communicative characteristics and functions of political theatre. In the theoretical base communication process in theatre, definition of political theatre and postdramatic theatre theory are unfolded. Theatre semiotic analysis and qualitative content analysis are used as research methods. Semi-structured interviews and quantitative content analysis are used as additional data collection methods. The political theatre in Latvia implements correlative, mobilizing, informative, entertaining and cultural continuity function. Latvian independent theaters, compared to the national theaters, have greater impact of B. Brecht’s ideas, however there is a tendency to use also E. Piscator’s political theater characteristics.
