Vietvārdi un to kultūrnozīme

Abstract

Vietvārdus var uzskatīt par ziņojumiem, kuri, lai gan darināti pirms daudziem gadu simtiem, joprojām sevī ietver informāciju par tā laika apkārtni – par dabas objektiem, upēm, celtnēm un cilvēkiem. Vietvārdus savā ikdienā lieto visu vecumu un tautību cilvēki. Latvijas vietvārdus ir darinājuši dažādu tautību cilvēki – gan krievi, gan lībieši, gan vācieši un somi. Tā kā Latvijas atrašanās vieta kartē ir izdevīga, vācu un krievu valodas ir ietekmējušas Latvijas vietvārdus īpaši daudz. Lai atklātu Latvijas vietvārdu nozīmes, līdztekus pētījuma lingvistiskajam ievirzienam, tika veikts starpdisciplinārs pētījums, kurš ietver sevī dažādus antropoloģiskās lingvistikas aspektus. Pētījuma mērķa noskaidrošanai, t.i., kā vietvārdu nozīme ir tikusi veidota no antropoloģijas un sociolingvistikas skatupunkta, tika analizēti 130 vietvārdi. No iegūtajiem datiem tika sastādīta klasifikācija, kurā tika izšķirtas galvenās lingvistiskās iezīmes Latvijas vietvārdos. Lielākā daļa Latvijas vietvārdu ir darināti, lai aprakstītu tiem apkārt esošo vidi un netālu esošos dabas objektus. Līdztekus lingvistiskajiem faktoriem, kas ir ietekmējuši vietvārdu rašanos un izcelsmi Latvijā, jāmin mitoloģija, vietējie iedzīvotāji, dažādas kultūras, reliģija, profesijas un dažādi ēdieni. Var secināt, ka Latvijas vietvārdi tiešā veidā atspoguļo latviešu kultūru, vērtības un uzskatus.

Place names can be viewed as messages, which, although coined centuries ago, still carry a meaning about the environment of that time, that is, about natural objects, rivers, buildings, and people. Place names are used by all people without exceptions –the age and nationality do not matter. Place names in Latvia have been coined by people with different cultural backgrounds – Germans, Russians, Finns and Livonians. As Latvia’s geographical location was favoured by many other countries – Germany and Russia, their languages have left significant mark in the place names. In order to decode the meanings incorporated in place names and in addition to linguistic perspective of the present paper, an interdisciplinary research was carried out – involving different aspects of anthropological linguistics. In order to answer research question of this paper, that is, how the meaning in toponyms is established considering anthropological and sociological perspectives, 130 place names were analysed. By the obtained data, a classification was made, which determines the leading linguistic trends among place names of Latvia. It can be said that the majority of place names are descriptive – they describe the environment around them and denote what natural objects can be seen there. In addition to linguistic factors, which influence place name coining, mythology, local inhabitants, different cultures, religion, professions and cuisine have to be mentioned. It can be concluded that place names are direct representation of culture, values and beliefs of Latvians.
