dc.description.abstract | The master thesis provides GARCH volatility modeling of four largest cryptocurrencies in terms of market capitalization: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Ripple. In empirical part GARCH, TGARCH, EGARCH and PGARCH modeling and forecasting of each cryptocurrency is performed using normal and student t distributions, at time period from 07.08.2015 to 27.03.2018. The best model is determined by comparing three model information criteria and forecast evaluation. Although the use of student t distribution improved the evaluation of overall models for all four cryptocurrencies, it did not always improve the forecast of models. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that Ripple and Bitcoin EGARCH models outperform other models of the GARCH family with regard to model estimation and prediction accuracy, while the results of the Litecoin and Ethereum models show that the selected models are not stable enough and justify the need for further analysis, to find more appropriate model for modeling volatility of these cryptocurrencies.
