The master thesis “Social Work with Ex-offenders in Social Rehabilitation Centres “Ratinieki” and “Ledmane” aims to carry out an analysis of available social rehabilitation resources. On the basis of this analysis, suggestions are offered on how to improve the social services, in particular to enhance their effectiveness. The framework of the thesis is the ecological systems theory and perspective of a life course, based on Germain’s and Giteman’s life’s model and Sampson’s and Laub’s age gradation theory. The empirical part of this work consists of a qualitative research which includes also partly structured interviews with centre directors, social workers and ex-prisoners undergoing a social rehabilitation process and living in a rehabilitation centre. In conclusion, the thesis summarizes the results of the work carried out with ex-prisoners in the social rehabilitation centres that were part of the analysis. Furthermore, suggestions are offered on how to improve the effectiveness of social treatment of former convicts in the rehabilitation centres of “Ratinieki” and “Ledmane”.
