Šī bakalaura darba tēma ir "Sieviešu lomas Džona Faulza romānā "Franču leitnanta draudzene". Šajā darbā tiek apspriesta sieviešu loma Viktorijas laika sabiedrībā, kā atsevišķu sfēru jēdziens ietekmēja sievietes lomu Viktorijas laikmetā, kāda bija sievietes loma saskaņā ar reliģiju deviņpadsmitajā gadsimtā, kas tika sagaidīts no sievietēm Viktorijas laikmetā, kāda bija laulība Viktorijas laikmetā, kā sievietes tika attēlotas Viktorijas laika romānos un vai Faulza attēlojums atšķiras no tiem, un kādi ir Sāras, Ernestīnes un Poultnijas kundzes tēli Faulza romānā "Franču leitnanta draudzene" un kā viņi atbilst Viktorijas laikmetam. Šī darba mērķis ir izpētīt sieviešu lomas Džona Faulza romānā "Franču leitnanta draudzene". Lai sasniegtu šo mērķi, tiek pielietotas teorētiskās un praktiskās izpētes metodes. Teorētiskā daļa sastāv no attiecīgās literatūras teorijas analīzes par Viktorijas laikmeta sievietēm. Bet empīriskā daļa sastāv no analīzes un kritikas par Džona Faulza romānu "Franču leitnanta draudzene", detalizēta grāmatas lasījuma, kā arī sieviešu lomas interpretācijas Faulza romānā "Franču leitnanta draudzene". Rezultāti, kas tika iegūti darba empīriskajā daļā, analizējot sieviešu lomas Džona Faulza romānā "Franču leitnanta draudzene" atklāja, ka romāna galvenais sievietes tēls Sāra ir pretrunā ar ideālo Viktorijas laikmeta sievietes tēlu, bet Ernsetīne un Poultnijas kundze ir tipiskas Viktorijas laikmeta sievietes. The topic of this bachelor thesis is ‘Roles of Women in John Fowles’s Novel The French Lieutenant’s Woman. The paper discusses roles of women in Victorian society, how the concept of separate spheres influenced women's position in the society in Victorian era, where did the religion position women in the nineteenth century, what was expected of women in the Victorian era, what was the marriage like in the Victorian society, how women were portrayed in the Victorian novel and does Fowles portrayal differs from those, and what kind of roles take Sarah's, Ernestina's and Mrs. Poulteney's characters in Fowle's novel The French Lieutenant's Woman and how they correspond to the Victorian era. The aim of this thesis is to investigate roles of women in John Fowles’s novel The French Lieutenant’s Woman. In order to reach the aim of this paper, theoretical and empirical research methods have been carried out. The theoretical part consists of the analysis of relevant theory on women in Victorian era. However, the empirical part consists of the analysis of the reviews and criticism about John Fowles's novel The French Lieutenant's Woman, and close reading of the book. The results that were obtained in the empirical part of the thesis in the analysis of the roles of women in the major characters of John Fowles’s novel The French Lieutenant’s Woman revealed that Sarah Woodruff, the female protagonist of the novel contradicts the ideal Victorian woman, however, Ernestina Freeman and Mrs. Poulteney resemble the typical women of Victorian society.
