Mēmu ontoloģiskais statuss Daniela Deneta apziņas koncepcijā

Abstract

Šī darba mērķis ir noskaidrot to, kā tiek domāts par mēmu konceptu, Daniela Deneta filosofijas kontekstā. Galvenais jautājums, kas tiek izvirzīts šajā darbā, ir – kādu ontoloģisko statusu var piešķirt mēmiem? Citiem vārdiem, kāds ir veids, kādā mēms pastāv un vai vispār ir iespējams apgalvot, ka mēmiem var piešķirt objektīvu esamību? Darbā tiek aplūkots termina “mēms” lietojums Deneta filozofijā, lai noskaidrotu, kādi nojēgumi tiek ar to saistīti. Lai to panāktu, tiek vispārīgi aprakstīta Deneta ontoloģija un apziņas filozofija un tiek izskatīts kopīgais un atšķirīgais starp mēma koncepta lietojumiem tajā. Jautājumi, kas tiek uzdoti, lai analizētu mēmu ir - cik pamatota ir gēna un mēma analoģija domājot par Deneta idejām? Kāda ir mēmu funkcija? Kā notiek mēma replikācija? Kā mēms var izcelties no materiālas vides? Darbā tiek secināts, ka mēmu ontoloģiskais stāvoklis ir cieši saistīts ar informācijas ontoloģisko stāvokli. Informācijas ontoloģiskā stāvokļa problemātiskuma dēļ tiek izteikts aicinājums pret mēmu konceptu izturēties uzmanīgi, jo tas pats nav līdz galam izskaidrots, tādejādi nevar kalpot par izskaidrojuma pamatu un rīku.

The aim of this paper is to clarify the way that the concept of meme is thought of in the context of Daniel Dennetts’ philosophy. The main question that’s put forward is – what kind of an ontological status can be ascribed to memes? In other words – what is the mode of existence for memes and is it possible that memes can be described as existing objectively? This paper looks at the usage of the term “meme” in Dennett’s philosophy to find out what kind of ideas are connected to it. To reach the aim of this paper I describe Dennett’s ontology and philosophy of mind in general terms and I look at the common themes and distinct uses of the meme concept in Dennett’s philosophy. The questions put forward in order to analyze memes are - is the analogy between genes and memes justified in Dennetts philosophy? How do memes replicate? What are the functions of memes? Can a meme emerge from a material environment? I conclude that the ontological status of memes is deeply intertwined with the ontological status of information. Due to the problematic ontological status of information I advise using the concept of memes cautiously, because the articulation of the concept isn’t satisfactionary and thus it cannot be a tool and the basis of explanations,
