vvhgAcFfrrrρ=, (1)
Neskatoties uz to, ka šādus vienādojumus iegūst no kustības vienādojumiem, to pielietojums ir ierobežots dažu iemeslu dēļ. Ir parādīts, ka ne tikai Landau konstante nav tik jutīga attiecībā pret bāzes plūsma The influence of surface roughness on the structure of magnetohydrodynamic flows and stability of shallow water flows is analyzed in the thesis. The following models are considered in the thesis: 1) flow of an electrically conducting fluid in an external magnetic field when different roughness elements are present on the surface and 2) stability of shallow water flow behind obstacles. The structure of an induced magnetic field for a fully developed flow in the presence of roughess elements is obtained. Analytical solution for the problem of a magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting fluid in a magnetic field is obtained for the case where surface roughness has a rectangular form. Distributions of the velocity of the fluid and induced magnetic field are obtained. Asymptotical solution of the problem (in the form of elementary functions) is obtained for the case of a strong magnetic field (when the Hartmann number is large). Different boundary layers of the velocity profile are analyzed. The problem is generalized to the case where roughness element on the surface is given by the formula ⎪⎩⎪⎨⎧><<<==LxLxLLxxFz~,0~,~~,~)~(~~1011χχ.
The Fourier sine and cosine transforms are used in both cases to solve the problems.
The obtained formulas for the velocity distribution contain integrals with oscillating integrands. In order to calculate the integral numerically one can transform the integral of oscillating function to the integral where the integrand is a monotone function. One class of oscillating integrals is transformed in the thesis to the integrals containing monotone functions. It is shown in the thesis how to use these integrals to calculate the velocity distribution for the case where surface roughness has a rectangular form.
Empirical formulas (for example, Chezy or Manning’s formulas) are often used in hydraulics to estimate the „integral” effect of energy losses in turbulent flows due to the presence of the boundary (and its roughness). Chezy formula vvhgAcFfrrrρ=, (1)
where ρ is the density of the fluid, g is the acceleration due to gravity, A is the area of the cross-section, is water depth, is the roughness coefficient, vhfcr is the velocity vector and is the friction force. Fr
Often the Manning’s formula is used:
vvnhgAFrrr3/4ρ=. (2)
Here is the Manning’s friction coefficient. Both formulas contain friction (or roughness) coefficients. The values of these coefficients can be found in the literature. Several empirical formulas relate friction coefiicients with the Reynolds number of the flow. The value of the friction coefficient depends on whether the surface is smooth or rough, but in any case the friction force is modeled by formulas (1) and (2), where it is assumed that the friction coefficeints are known (or can be calculated in the Reynolds number of the flow is known). n
Coherent structures which are often observed in nature (for example, flows behind obstacles) and engineering, are believed to obain as a result of hydrodynamic instabilities. Since flows behind obstacles are often shallow it is possible to use shallow water equations with terms that characterize the effect of friction force (formulas (1) or
(2)). Using methods of linear and weakly nonlinear stability theory one can (in some cases) calculate not only linear stability characteristics, but also analyze the „fate” of a perturbation in a weakly nonlinear regime. Applying weakly nonlinear theory to equations of motion one can derive evolution equation describing the variation of the amplitude of the perturbation (for example, Ginzburg-Landau equation). Despite the fact that such equations are derived from the equations of motion there are some limitations in using them. Previous analyses have shown that the calculation of the Landau constant is an ill-posed problem – large changes in the values of the Landau constant correspond to small changes in the structure of
