Darbs sastāv no 41 lapaspuses, 33 izmantotiem literatūras avotiem, 9 attēliem, 5 tabulām. Atslēgas vārdi: matemātikas prasmes, ģeometriskās figūras, pirmsskola, 4-5 gadus veci bērni. Author of the paper: Dagnija Pulture Theme of the qualification work: The development of mathematical skills in pre-school children by playing. The aim: to study the development of mathematical skills of 4-5-year-old children using games by theoretical and empirical menthods. The present work review the explanations of mathematical skills and examines the possibilities how to gain these skills in preschool education, emphasizing the work whit 4-5-year-old children using construction games. During the present research the criteria were developed to reflect the development children’s mathematical skills using the characteristics and location of the proper geometrical shapes. The chosen construction toy kit has improved the mathematical skills of the children involved in the study. The usage of construction games may promote the development of mathematical skills, as the opportunity to practice, understand the relations and causes, which is given to the children, and the various forms of organizing contruction games allow the game to be adapted to the acquisition of different mathematical skills. The work consists of 41 pages, 33 used literature sources, 9 figures, 5 tables. Keywords: mathematical skills, geometric shapes, pre-school, 4-5 year-old children.
