Children born in the 21st century are called the digital generation, which has been devoting a lot of time to technology since early childhood. It is proven that the time spent in smart devices affects children's perceptions and also their cognitive abilities. Thus, teachers have the task to adapt the learning process to the opportunities created by technology, as well as to the habits and perceptions of students. The diploma thesis has been developed with the aim to find out how the digital learning games created by the author of the diploma thesis motivate to learn Latvian spelling and raise interest in literature. To achieve this goal, five tasks were set: to get acquainted with the scientific literature on the use of digital learning games in the learning process, as well as to analyse the scientific literature on students' motivation to get involved in the learning process; to develop digital learning games for Latvian language and literature lessons; to study how the developed games motivate students to learn Latvian language and literature with the help of observation and survey methods. In order to achieve the set tasks, 83 digital learning games were developed, 68 students were interviewed with the help of the survey method, and 26 students in the 7th grade were also observed while they were playing digital learning games in Latvian language and literature lessons. The findings of the study are as follows: according to students, digital learning games make the learning process more interesting and motivate them to learn. Digital learning games can be used successfully to strengthen the acquired knowledge.
