Cēloņi Rīgas latviešu konversijai pareizticībā 19. gadsimta 40. gados

Abstract

Vidzemes Latviešu konversija Pareizticībā 19. gadsimta 40.gados ir viens no tā laika spilgtākajiem notikumiem latviešu tautas attīstības procesā un ticības dzīvē, tomēr vēsturnieku domas par konversijas kustības cēloņiem dalās. Šajā darbā meklēti cēloņi tieši Rīgas latviešu konversijas kustībai, priekšplānā izvirzot Dāvidu Balodi kā minētās konversijas aizsācēju. Pētniecības darba izstrādē izmantota vēsturiski salīdzinošā pētījuma metode. Pirmajā pētījuma daļā tiek sniegts ieskats Pareizticīgo Baznīcas vēsturē tagadējā Latvijas teritorijā, kuru norādīt ir būtiski, lai saprastu Pareizticīgo garīdzniecības lomu vēlākajā konversijas kustībā. Otrajā daļā tiek meklēti cēloņi Vidzemes latviešu konversijai Pareizticībā, kas ir klātesoši arī Rīgas latviešu konversijā. Trešajā daļā tiks analizēta Rīgas latviešu sabiedrība, tās motivācija un cēloņi 1845.gada konversijas kustībai, īpaši aplūkojot Dāvida Baloža konversijas motīvus. Pētījuma noslēgumā izvirzītā tēze ir apstiprinājusies - cēloņi Rīgas latviešu konversijai Pareizticībā 19.gadsimta 40.gados bija latviešu politiskā, ekonomiskā un reliģiskā marginalizācija – atstumšana no ietekmes minētajās jomās. Balstoties uz pētījumā gūtajām atziņām un rezultātiem, var tikt veikti tālāki pētījumi un, iespējams, vilktas paralēles starp 19.gadsimta latviešu konversiju Pareizticībā un 20.gadsimta beigu un arī 21.gadsimta tendenci latviešiem pāriet no Protestantisma ( īpaši Luterānisma ) Pareizticībā.

The conversion of Vidzeme Latvians to Orthodoxy in the 1840s is one of the most notable events in the development of Latvian nation and its religious life at those times; yet historians have various opinions about what caused the conversion. In this paper the causes of Riga Latvian conversion movement are analyzed, bringing Dāvids Balodis to the forefront as the conversion initiator. This research is based on the historical comparative method. The first section gives insight into the history of Orthodox Church in the current territory of Latvia, which has to be mentioned in order to comprehend the role of Orthodox clergy in the further development of conversion. The second section looks for the causes of Vidzeme Latvians conversion to Orthodoxy, which are present also in Riga Latvian conversion. The third section analyses Riga Latvian community, its motivation and causes for conversion movement in 1845, looking closely to Dāvids Balodis conversion motives. In the conclusion the proposed thesis is confirmed – the causes for Riga Latvian conversion to Orthodoxy in the 1840s was the political, economical and religious marginalization of Latvians – repelling from influence in the mentioned areas. Based on research results and verities further research can be carried out and, perhaps, analogies can be drawn between 19th century Latvian conversion into Orthodoxy and the tendency of Latvians to convert from Protestantism (especially Lutheranism) to Orthodoxy in the 20th - 21st century.
