Šobrīd pasaulē attīstās atjaunojošā justīcija, kura konfliktu risina starp tajā iesaistītām pusēm, tāpēc darba mērķis ir izprast izlīguma nozīmi un uzsvērt Valsts probācijas dienesta īpašu lomu izlīguma īstenošanā.
Mērķa sasniegšanai pirmajā nodaļā autore pievērsās izlīguma būtībai, vēsturiskās attīstības un ārvalstu prakses pētīšanai. Otrajā nodaļā autore akcentē starpnieka nozīmi izlīguma procesā, veic ieskatu mediācijas institūtā un iezīmē atšķirības ar izlīguma juridisko dabu. Trešajā nodaļā tiek analizēti statistikas dati par izlīguma īstenošanu Valsts probācijas dienestā. Kopsavilkumā autore izklāsta secinājumus, kas gūti darba izstrādes laikā, un piedāvā priekšlikumus tiesiskā regulējuma pilnveidošanai.
