Pētījuma instrumentārijs: Vecāku stresa indekss – saīsinātā forma (Parental stress index – short form, Abidin, 1995), Vecāku kontroles lokusas skala (Parental Locus of Control Scale, Campis, Lyman & Prentice – Dunn, 1986), demogrāfisko datu anketa.
The aim of the course work: to find out whether mothers who bringing up children with intellectual disabilities, compared with mothers who are raising children without intellectual problems, have relatively higher stress levels.
In the study participated 75 respondents: 37 mothers with children with severe intellectual disabilities and 38 mother who have children without intellectual disabilities and whose children are aged from 10 - 14 years. Participants were equated by the child's age, mother's level of education, marital status, number of children in the family, socio-economic status. The research instruments survey of parents Parental Stress Index - Short Form (PSI-SF, Abidin, 1995), Parental Locus of Control Scale (PLOC, Campis, Lyman & Prentice – Dunn, 1986), demographic data questionnaire.
Results show that there was no statistically significant differences between the two groups of parental distress measurement. There is a statistically significant difference in overall stress levels, mothers with children with intellectual disabilities have a higher overall stress levels than mothers whose children do not have intellectual impairment. There are statistically significant differences in locus of control rates between the two groups of the results. Mothers who are raising children with intellectual disabilities are more prominent eksternāls locus of control. There is a statistically significant correlation between parental stress and locus of control indicators.
The results of the research can be used for practical action to improve welfare and the effectiveness of the parental role for mothers, whose children have intellectual disabilities.
The keywords are: intellectual disorders, parental stress, locus of control.
