Diplomdarbā secināts, ka darba mērķis ir sasniegts un pieņēmums, ka dziesmu un mūzikas izmantošana ir efektīvs līdzeklis valodas pamatprasmju attīstīšanā sākumskolas svešvalodas stundās, ir pierādīts The title of the diploma paper is “The use of songs and music as a tool for developing basic English language skills in the primary school in grade 4”. The research consists of introductory part, seven chapters and conclusive part. Nine appendices, the bibliography, as well as annotations in Latvian and English are attached to the diploma paper. Methods of analysis applied in the research are analysis of pedagogical and psychological literature, analysis of personal pedagogical experience and questionnaire method.
The theme of the research is very live as music is an integral part of our everyday life – it can be heard everywhere. Music is a tool that can be used in many ways and for different purposes, yet many teachers consider songs and music as an entertaining material for relaxation.
The research hypothesis is based on the assumption that songs and music when used purposefully can be an effective tool for developing basic language skills.
The theoretical part of the research is founded on the study of theoretical support for the use of music in the second language lessons, theoretical analysis of primary school aged children development and analysis of teaching basic language skills for primary school students. The empirical part of the research is to a great extent based on the analysis of personal pedagogical experience while creating a song collection for the grade 4 students and introducing it in practice, as well as analysis of teachers attitudes and habits of using songs and music in the secong language classroom.
The research concludes that the assumption that songs and music when used purposefully can be an effective tool for developing basic language skills proved to be correct.
