Atšķirības sieviešu ar augstu un zemu ķermeņa pašvērtējumu spriedumos par sabiedrībā populāru sieviešu ķermeņa izmēriem.

Abstract

Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot, vai pastāv atšķirības ar savu ķermeni neapmierinātu sieviešu un ar savu ķermeni apmierinātu sieviešu spriedumos par sabiedrībā populāru un medijos bieži redzamu sieviešu ķermeņu izmēriem. Pētījumā piedalījās divas izlases grupas: vienā bija 24 sievietes ar augstu ķermeņa pašvērtējumu, otrā – 25 sievietes ar zemu ķermeņa pašvērtējumu. Sievietes bija vecumā no 18 līdz 25 gadiem, kuru ķermeņa masas indekss (ĶMI) iekļaujas normālos rādītājos, un kurām nav ēšanas traucējumu. Respondentēm bija jāizpilda Ķermeņa pašvērtējuma skala (The Body Esteem Scale, Franzoi & Shields, 1984), Aptauja par attieksmi pret ēšanu – EAT-26 (Eating Attitudes Test EAT-26, David M. Garner & Paul E. Garfinkel, 1979, David M. Garner et al.,1982). Bija jāizpilda arī uzdevums ar attēliem – tajā dalībnieču vērtēšanai tika piedāvātas 3 pasaulē slavenu sieviešu fotogrāfijas, katra no slavenībām attēlota dažādos izmēros un respondentei jāizvēlas, viņasprāt, reālajam izmēram visatbilstošākais. Aptauja tika publicēta un dati ievākti interneta vidē. Pētījuma mērķis netika sasniegts, iegūtie rezultāti uzrāda, ka nav statistiski nozīmīgu atšķirību ar savu ķermeni neapmierinātu sieviešu un ar savu ķermeni apmierinātu sieviešu spriedumos par slavenību ķermeņu izmēriem. Sievietes gan ar zemu, gan augstu ķermeņa pašvērtējumu vērtē slavenības kā tievākas, nekā tās ir patiesībā. Šī pētījuma rezultāti papildina jau esošos pētījumus, kuri meklē atbildes uz jautājumiem, kādā veidā notiek mijiedarbība starp medijiem un neapmierinātību ar ķermeni, un, kādi psiholoģiskie procesi ir pamatā tam, ka ar ķermeni neapmierinātas sievietes negatīvāk ietekmējas no mediju tēliem. The aim of this study was to find out if there are differences in body-dissatisfied and body-satissfied female judgements of size of thin female celebrities. Two groups of females took part in this study – there was group of 24 body-satisfied females, and group of 25 body-dissatisfied females. Participants were 18 to 25 years old, with body mass index (BMI) inside normal weight range, and no eating disorders. Participants completed The Body Esteem Scale (Franzoi & Shields, 1984), Eating Attitudes Test EAT-26 (David M. Garner & Paul E. Garfinkel, 1979, David M. Garner et al.,1982). They completed Picture task – in this task participants were presented with photographs of three thin female celebrities, there was one accurate and six distorted photographs of each celebrity, making the celebrity appear thinner or havier than actually. Participants chose what image they thought was the actual size of each female celebrity. Results of this study shows that there are not significant differences in body-satisfied and body-disatissfied female judgements of size of thin female celebrities. Both - body-satisfied and body-disatissfied females were inaccurate in judgments of sizes of female celebrities and judged the actual size of celebrities thinner than actually. Results of this study supplements similar researches trying to find an answer how media exposure and body dissatisfaction are interrelated and to better understand the psychological processes underlying body-dissatisfied individuals negative effects from media exposure.
