adaptējušas S. Voitkāne un S. Miezīte (Voitkāne, Miezīte, 2001);
Aptauja ”Attieksme pret pašnāvībām” (Attitudes towards suicide (ATTS), Renberg &
Jacobsson, 1996.), Latvijā šo aptauju šogad (2009) adaptējusi I. Putka sava kursa darba
The aim of the Bachelor Paper was to clarify, whether there are substantial differences in
attitude towards suicide for people in age of 20 – 25 and 50 – 55, as well as to clarify, whether
high depression indicates with positive attitude towards suicide in respective age groups do
correlate. Research sample was formed by 60 respondents, 31 women and 29 men; in the first
group were 30 respondents in the age of 20 – 25, in the second group – 30 respondents in the
age of 50 – 55.
In the elaboration of the Bachelor Paper were applied two methods: Beck Depression
Inventory – II ((BDI – II), Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996), in Latvia this inventory was adapted
by S. Voitkane and S. Miezite (Voitkāne, Miezīte, 2001);
Inventory ”Attitudes towards suicide” (ATTS), Renberg & Jacobsson, 1996, in Latvia this
inventory was adapted in this year (2009) by I. Putka in the framework of her course work;
there was summarized also information of overall data - age, gender and level of education.
On the base of results, obtained from performed research, it can be affirmed that there
are no statistically significant differences in attitudes towards suicide in different age groups:
both age groups equally accept or reject suicide. However, there are age differences in contact
with problem – for younger people it is higher. In both age groups were revealed correlations
between the level of depression and suicidal intentions, but directions were in opposite, which
is unexpected finding. In both age groups the higher were depression indices, the more
accepting was the attitudes toward suicide.
Obtained results show that depression is substantial index, which has to be taken into
account by forming suicide preventing strategies, especially among young people.
