The concept of life-long learning, in which autonomous learning is a dominant factor, becomes increasingly widespread in the modern world. The author of the Paper would suggest that it is not merely a “modern concept”, “a buzz word” or anything alike, but it is the tendency pursued in the modern multicultural society. One of the main instincts of any being is an instinct to survive, and in order to “survive” one should be flexible in the sense of adaptation, because the world constantly changes. Nowadays it seems that this process of change has dramatically increased its pace due to the globalization processes going on, increased travel of people, the rapid progress of modern technology, the growing demands of the market, as well as other factors. Therefore, it is essential to possess qualities of autonomous learner as one needs to acquire new knowledge, skills all the time in order to keep up, to be needed on the labour market, to be competitive, etc.
The author of the Paper herself has begun working at school. Working with young learners, the author as an educator feels the need to help students gradually develop autonomous learning strategies, as well as promote cooperation and active involvement among learners. For this purposes the author sees a great potential in drama lessons.
Thereby, the author of the Diploma Paper studied the literature sources on autonomous learning, drama and young learners. Furthermore, the author conducted a case study on implementation of drama techniques in English lessons in order to develop autonomous learning strategies in young learners.
To continue, the obtained results were satisfying, and the author managed to achieve her aim and to help students develop their autonomous learning strategies in English lessons using drama techniques in language teaching, as well as to find valuable drama techniques for the students.
Despite the fact that the aim was reached, the author of the Paper considers the necessity of carrying out a much broader research in order to prepare and try out a greater number of autonomy developing drama techniques, as well as to gather more data on the topic.
