The following study’s aim is the self-state representation conceptualisation in adolescence, review of the relevant literature and research on the topic of self-discrepancy theory, which is conducted using psychometrically reliable measures. This study’s goals are to find out whether in Latvian cultural context self-discrepancies are generally related to emotions, and whether self-discrepancies between adolescents’ actual self and their ideal self are connected with dejection-related emotions and whether self-discrepancies between adolescents’ actual self and their ought self are connected with agitation-related emotions. The results of the conducted study allow concluding that in Latvian cultural context a negative relationship takes place between self-discrepancies in adolescents’ actual and ideal self (from one’s own standpoint on the self) and his or hers positive emotions. This means that the more positive emotions there are, the fewer ideal self-discrepancies there will be.
