The aim of the paper is to clarify whether the traffic accidents are judged more critically when there is BMW involved in comparison with the situations when there is an anonymous type of car involved.
The BMW proved to be the cause of the negative reaction, which according to the results of pilot research was declared as the most aggressive type of the car. In pilot research 40 respondents were interviewed – 20 men and 20 women.
In the main research 60 respondents were interviewed – 30 men and 30 women. All respondents (including those who participated in pilot research) had a valid drivers licence issued by Road Traffic Safety Directorate. All respondents were citizens of the Republic of Latvia.
The research control group contained 15 men and 15 women whose average age was 26 years. The experimental group contained 15 men and 15 women whose average age was 27.9 years.
The individually designed method was applied for this research. The special story was created which described 5 different traffic situations. According to the Likert’s scale the respondents answered different questions about these situations. The control group respondents received the story where the main character drives Seat; but the main character of the story presented to the experimental group droved BMW. In the story presented to the control group the Seat was chosen due to the fact that in the pilot research Seat was not indicated by the respondents.
As the result of the research the author can state that the respondents reviled statistically important differences regarding questions about drivers’ common sense, intentions, aggressiveness, safety, control over the car and other questions which are connected with the main characters of the created stories. In all cases as the most aggressive was declared the driver who drives BMW.
