Abstract

Diplomdarbs atklāj mūsdienās aktuālu tēmu – kritiskās domāšanas prasmju attīstīšana angļu valodas stundās. Diplomdarbs bija rakstīts tādēļ, lai aplūkot kritiskās domāšanas būtību un galvenos principus, izpētīt, kas padara cilvēku par kritiski labi domājošo un pielietot uzdevumus, kas ir balstīti uz ziņu rakstiem, ar mērķi palīdzēt studentiem attīstīt viņu kritiskās domāšanas spējas. Pasaule mainās, tā kļūst arvien sarežģītākā. Tādēļ, lai spētu risināt problēmas ikdienas dzīvē, cilvēkam ir jāprot analizēt problēmas, rast risinājumus, pieņemt prātīgus lēmumus, balstoties uz paša vai pašas pieredzes un ģenerēt jaunas idejas nākotnē. Tāpēc ir ļoti svarīgi mācīt studentiem domāt kritiski. Diplomdarba teorētiskā daļa ietver kritiskās domāšanas teoriju – galvenos principus, būtību un noslieci uz kritisko domāšanu, kritiskās lasīšanas un kritiskās domāšanas atšķirības un līdzības, padomus par mācīšanu, izmantojot informācijas līdzekļus, respektīvi, ziņu rakstus. Lai pamatotu Diplomdarba teorētiskās daļas apgalvojumus, tika veikts atsevišķa gadījuma pētījums. Atsevišķā gadījuma pētījums analizē studentu aizpildītās anketas un sniedz pētījuma autores novērotos faktus un secinājumus. Nobeigumā ir jāsaka, ka skolotājiem ir jāapgūst kritiskās domāšanas teorija, lai varētu pielietot šīs zināšanas angļu valodas stundās un attīstīt studentu kritiskās domāšanas prasmes.

The present Diploma Paper discloses the topical theme of nowadays – developing critical thinking skills in English lessons. The Diploma Paper was written in order to explore the essence and main principles of critical thinking, to examine what makes person a good critical thinker and to apply activities based on news articles for the purpose of helping students develop their critical thinking skills. The reason why this Diploma Paper was written is because the world is changing, the world is becoming more complicated and to be able to solve problems in everyday life, achieve his or her own goals and ambitions, the person must be able to analyze problems, find solutions, make reasonable decisions on the basis of his or her experience and produce new ideas in future. Therefore it is crucial to teach students to think critically. The theoretical part of the Diploma Paper includes theory on critical thinking – main principles, core and disposition towards critical thinking, differences and similarities of critical reading and critical thinking, teaching with the help of media, namely, news articles. In order to substantiate the statements of the theoretical part of the Diploma Paper, the case study was carried out. The case study practically rendered the research results and analysis of the collected materials of author’s observations and questionnaires given to students. To conclude, the theory on critical thinking should be acquired by teachers so as to enable them to use this knowledge and to be aware of its usage in English lessons and to develop students’ critical thinking skills.
