Šis darbs ir mēģinājums ielūkoties 17. gs. Vidzemes vācu muižniecības mentalitātes vēsturē, skatot viņu paštēla problemātiku attiecībās ar Zviedrijas valsts varu 17. gs. 70. – 90. gados. Darba pirmā nodaļa veltīta šo attiecību problemātikai līdz 17. gs. 70. gadiem, bet nākamajās nodaļās aplūkoti Vidzemes vācu muižniecības sociālās (kolektīvās) atmiņas aspekti un nozīmīgākie Vidzemes vācu muižniecības paštēla elementi (tēvzemes aizstāvju koncepts un karalim uzticīgu pavalstnieku tēls). Pēdējā nodaļa skar jautājumus, kas saistīti ar šī paštēla krīzes iezīmēm un to kā Vidzemes vācu muižniecība bija spiesta piemēroties jaunajam tiesiskajam un sociālajam statusam, kādā to nostādīja Zviedrijas valsts vara. The main attention in this work is paid to the Livland’s German nobility’s self-image in its relationship to the state power of Sweden in the 17th century’s 70ties – 90ties. This theme covers the problems of these relationships until the 17th century’s 70ties, but the main chapters are dedicated to the aspects of Livland’s German nobility’s social (collective) memory and the elements of their self-image (the concept of fatherland’s defender and the image of king’s loyal subject). The last chapter deals with the crisis aspects of this self-image and the ability of Livland’s German nobility to adapt to the new circumstances (mainly legal and social position) in which the state power of Sweden put them.
